Postcard FAQ
-
Yes! Postcard-writing represents one of several complementary approaches to reach voters (along with phone/text banking and knocking on doors) and has been proven to be an effective tool in creating change. Studies have shown that personalized, handwritten postcards can significantly increase voter turnout, especially in historically low-turnout down-ballot races that can be decided by just a few votes.

Writers sign up to receive weekly emails which describe the campaign(s) being offered that week. The weekly email contains a link to an order form where writers order the number of postcards/addresses they want from each campaign and indicate one of five packet pick-up locations in Buffalo and surrounding suburbs (two in Buffalo and one each in Tonawanda, Amherst, and East Aurora).
An email is sent to the writer when the packets are ready for pick-up (generally the morning after orders are due). Packets contain the cards, addresses, scripts, instructions, and labels (if required for the campaign). Writers provide the stamps.

We work with national grassroots sponsor organizations that provide the addresses, scripts, and other materials we need to participate in their get-out-the-vote and voter registration campaigns. Groups we have partnered with include: Activate America; Field Team 6; Postcards to Voters; Reclaim our Vote ; Vote Forward; Blue Wave Movement; Postcards to Swing States; and voteriders.org

Writers choose when and how much to write. There is no obligation to write every week. An order typically consists of 20-25 addresses and cards and takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete depending on the length of the script. You will always have at least 1 week (but usually longer) to complete and mail your cards.
-
The scripts are written by the sponsor organization and are tailored to the target population. Therefore, writers are expected to stick to the script as written. Printing and legible handwriting is required.
-
No. Writers sign their first name or initials only.
-
Yes, anyone can register with the sponsor organizations and place their own order.
