Actions for the Week of 2/23/25
Tell your Representatives how you feel about passage of the budget resolution in the House
House Republicans passed their despicable budget resolution along party lines, winning by one vote. This was the first and easiest step in a long list of steps toward actual passage, so there are still several opportunities for the legislation to fail. In the meantime, call or email your House Representative and either thank them (if a Democrat) or shame them (if Republican). Find contact info for your House Rep here. Write your own or use the scripts below:
If Rep is a Democrat:
I want to thank the Congressmember for voting against Republicans’ awful budget resolution. I am very upset and am asking the Congressmember to keep fighting to make sure this budget doesn’t ever pass. Americans won’t tolerate losing services and blowing up the deficit so billionaires and corporations can get more tax cuts. We want their taxes to go up, not down. Please fight for that. Thanks.
If Rep is a Republican:
I want to express my absolute rage that the Congressmember voted for the budget resolution. This is a breathtakingly irresponsible and cruel budget, and the fact that the Congressmember voted for it sickens me. I want him/her to change course right away. Americans won’t tolerate losing services and blowing up the deficit so billionaires and corporations can get more tax cuts. Oppose this budget. Thanks.
Block Trump loyalists from senior military positions
The effort to bring the military in line with the Trump coup is underway. Trump and Hegseth fired six of the most senior military officers including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (General Charles Q. Brown), the Chief of Naval Operations, the Air Force Vice Chief of Staff, and the Judge Advocate Generals from the Army, Air Force, and Navy. Learn more here.
Call or email your Senators with your own message or use the ones below. Find contact info for your Senators here.
If your Senator is a Democrat:
I’m horrified by Trump’s purge of our military. I want the Senator to announce that s/he will place a hold on any nomination to replace the purged officers AND organize a filibuster to prevent the replacement of those officers. I also call upon the Senator to oppose the dismissals of the Judge Advocate Generals by immediately announcing that s/he will place a hold on any nomination to replace those officers, and by organizing and participating in a filibuster to block them. No MAGA loyalists in those seats. Thanks.
If your Senator is a Republican:
I’m horrified by Trump’s purge of our military. Six highly qualified and respected senior officers were fired for no reason other than pettiness and spite. For the sake of the country, I want the Senator to do the right thing and vote NO on any unqualified, unprincipled yes-men that will undoubtedly be nominated to fill these positions. The military must remain independent and honorable! Thanks.
If you live in NY, tell Governor Hochul to sign the New York Health Information Privacy Act into law
Commercial health data, such as search engine queries for abortion services, location data at reproductive health care clinics, or online purchase of pregnancy tests, is NOT protected by the federal HIPAA. Companies can extract health insights from online searches, app usage, and purchase histories to create detailed individual profiles, and then sell or give away your information.
Without this critical piece of legislation, New Yorkers and anyone who accesses health care in NY will be left vulnerable to data brokers and law enforcement agencies in anti-abortion states looking to surveil and prosecute people for exercising their reproductive freedom. Learn more here.
This legislation (S929) has already passed the NY Assembly. Follow this link to send a pre-scripted letter to Governor Hochul urging her to sign it into law.
